The music video of Black or White generated strong controversy. First, the video of the US television MTV, BET, VH1 and FOX aired (after an episode of The Simpsons) on 14 November 1991.. Simultaneous it ran in 27 countries and was viewed by 500 million people - most of the audience has ever had a music video. In the video, have the actors Macaulay Culkin, Peggy Lipton and George Wendt guest appearances. The film was directed by John Landis, the same director as thriller. Production costs were very high, which was mainly due to the morphing effects used in the video. Morphing effects were also used earlier in the music video Cry by Godley & Creme.
The video begins with a tracking shot that begins above the clouds and over the night streets of a city in the room of a young (Macaulay Culkin) leads that sounds loud rock music. After the father (George Wendt) forbids him this, he builds in the living room on a large stereo system and plays a loud power chord on the guitar, which transports the father including chair vertically through the roof. He lands in the desert, where Michael Jackson dancing with the locals. In many transitions it sets this with people from different places and cultures continue (including the indigenous peoples of Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Russia). After a Rapeinlage by Bill Bottrell the morphing sequence follows, where people of different origin, color and appearance are transformed into each other. Among other things are also Glen Chin, Tyra Banks and Cree Summer (last person) there.
In the uncut version of the music video it follows the Panther Dance Michael Jackson leaves the recording studio in the form of a black panther. On the road, he transforms back into his human form and shows without background music a series of sophisticated dance moves in the streets at night. He smashes windows, destroyed a car and makes the illuminated sign of a hotel explode (the "Royal Arms"). Finally, he turns back into the black panther.
In a brief final sequence in the animated style Bart Simpson shows how he looks at the music video. Homer Simpson comes to that. Homer: "Bart, do the din of" ("Bart, stop that noise"). Bart: "Relax, mate" ("Chill out, homeboy"). Finally, Homer turned on with the remote control of the TV.
